Recap. Restart. Revamp.

My theme song for today is "I can see clearly now the rain is gone...I can see all the obstacles in my waaaay..." I'm sure you've heard it before - I don't know the name of it.

Basically I have had one of the best weekends in a while believe it or not and even though it started off so badly, it ended incredibly. This weekend taught me so much and I am truly grateful for everything that transpired. I have learned to not only believe in my dreams (I tend to have dreams that either come true or can be interpreted to reveal things going on in my living state) but my instinct as well. I have learned not to believe everything you hear or see. I have learned that life is an adventure.

For the last few months I have not only felt sad, I have been burdened by the struggle of another person that I made my own. I kissed that burden goodbye and woke up feeling better than I have felt in a very long time.

Now that I don't have the dark cloud over me, I'm unsure where to start. I have so much more free time on my hands that I don't know where to begin. I do, however, have a list of what I would love to get started on and finish by the beginning of 2014:::

  • More internships.
  • Gym
  • Strengthen my relationship with God.
  • Rekindle past friendships that faded with time.

I have a few posts that I need to catch up on: I had a get-together for Valentine's Day and a much needed hair post. I'll definitely be writing you all soon.
Thank you for the emails; it still amazes me that people read this blog! :)

The Fruit Diet...Strawberries Anyone?

I'm really trying to get back into the body I had when I started high school; tight and curvy.
My girls and I are traveling this summer and I'm about to be 21...so I think it's time I turn a year older with style.

I have dropped about 6 dress sizes over the last years (I was a lot bigger) but I'm ready to look incredibly tight and toned. I work out regularly and but I skip a lot of meals and when I do eat, it's late...which basically renders all my workouts useless. x_x

I have done just one diet in the past, and it was 'The Lemonade Diet'. It worked wonders. I dropped 20 lbs in a week...but it was HELL. I suffered; but oddly enough I would do it again. lol

Anyway, I'm really trying to detoxtify my body by doing Bikram yoga, running, and consuming a lot more water. My sister brought up the 'Fruit Diet' and I figured "Hey why not?" So I'll be starting that next week and I can't wait to see the results!

The Health Challenge.

Okay, so I'm starting a new diet. I am a carbohydrate fiend; I love bread, cereal, pasta...basically my diet consists of anything carbs. Which is horrible because they do STRAIGHT to my thighs. That wouldn't really be a problem, but now I swear my thigh looks like a chicken thigh (feel free to laugh)
I am actually physically active, and have the ability to lose 20lbs in a week...but I feel as though I try something new and can't really stick to it. Soooo I'm giving this whole new diet a try. I have to cut off the carbs...and the meat. I'm practically a carnivore. I plan on just eating salads and fruit...and I'm sure that I can keep this up.

Coupled with extreme aerobics, cardio, and strength training, I plan on dropping as much weight and tone up in order to look and feel healthier. If you're interested in joining my plan, feel free to contact me at jessicanwoka@yahoo.com.

---Wish me luck! :)

10 Ways To Have a Healthy Life

You want to feel great all the time, don’t you? A healthy lifestyle will keep you sharp, attractive and happy for pretty much the rest of your life. That’s a pretty sweet deal. So get ready to find out the best tips for living a healthy, happy lifestyle for many years to come.
1: Eat Healthy Foods – You are what you eat; the old adage goes, so make yourself healthy and wonderful by eating plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low-calorie, low-fat proteins. For guidance, be sure to follow the recommended food pyramid to make sure you balance your meals well.
2: Start and Maintain a Fitness Program – Exercise keeps you healthy, slim and confident. It also reduces stress and keeps the odds in your favor in the fight to prevent cancer, heart disease and diabetes. Start a routine you can stick to, even if that means just walking down the street a few times a week, and then build from there.
3: Manage Your Stress – Not only does stress have you tugging out that (probably white) hair, it also lowers your immune system, making you more susceptible to viruses and bacteria. Meditate, take a warm bath, do some stretching or anything that makes you happy and calm. You will be doing yourself a real favor.
4: Have Some Water – Water is such a simple, basic thing, but it does so much! It helps your digestive system, helps you fight germs, keeps you hydrated and keeps you refreshed! Be sure to drink the recommended 8 glasses of water a day to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
5: Avoid Cigarettes – Cigarettes cause cancer, there’s no way around it. Don’t poison yourself on a regular basis. Any perceived benefits you get from lighting up, you can get from slightly changing your lifestyle. Plus, you will live longer and healthier.
6: Get a Full Night of Sleep – When you don’t sleep right, you become irritable, frustrated, your brain is confused and your whole day suffers. So improve your days by getting plenty of sleep. It may mean missing your late night television show, but that’s what TIVO is for. Parents, start this trend early by enforcing bedtime.
7: Get it on – Sexual intercourse provides cardio exercise, relieves stress, promotes positive relationships, and has even been shown to help ward off diseases. On top of that, people seem to think it is pretty fun. So dim the lights, cue the music and get it on. Just remember to practice safe sex and use birth control if you aren’t ready for a family.
8: Maintain Friendships – Friendships are a source of joy, a place to vent out frustrations, and just plain have a good time. You don’t have to be Mr. or Ms. Popular, but do maintain at least a few strong, healthy friendships. Join a club to meet people of similar interests, if you don’t know where to start.
9: Limit Alcohol – A little glass of wine can be beneficial for your heart and relieving some of the day’s stress, as Barry White once said, too much of anything isn’t good for you. Too much alcohol, for example, can destroy your liver and make you more vulnerable to cancer. So take it easy.
10: Smile – Happiness comes from the inside out, so put a smile on your face and be positive. Try to be optimistic at all times, always looking on the bright side. Remember that things will be okay, you are living a fun, happy, healthy lifestyle. How could you go wrong?

10 Beauty Tools You Might Already Have At Home

Who says you have to spend half of your paycheck on skin and hair care products to look your best? Why not just turn your kitchen’s pantry into your beauty bar and save a little dinero? All it takes are a few edible ingredients, an open mind and some beauty tips.
    Strawberry
  1. Strawberries – First of all, can I say how much I love strawberries? Sheesh! These succulent red berries aren’t just for being eaten with ice cream, whipped cream, or dipped in chocolate. Nope! Strawberries are also your best friend for natural teeth-whitening. Once a day before your regular brushing and flossing (because of the sugar in the strawberries), mash two or three berries in a small bowl, and carefully, but vigorously, brush your teeth with this berry paste (you may want to use a different toothbrush to do this, as the one you use will probably stain). Look for results within a week or two.
  2. Honey
  3. Honey – Pretty much a savior for skin and hair. Honey acts as a natural antiseptic and anti-fungal, and it’s also an amazing humectant, preserving moisture in the skin. Try dabbing a bit over broken facial acne to speed the repair process (test on a small area first), mix a small amount in with your conditioner for a moisturizing and delicious-smelling hair mask, or place on your mouth overnight to wake up with full, luscious lips. Be careful, however, as honey tends to stick…everywhere. Use less than you initially think you’ll need, and add to it bit by bit from there.
  4. Potatoes
  5. Potatoes – Weird, I know. But there’s a certain compound in potatoesthat’s been shown to help reduce swelling and puffiness. Using a vegetable peeler, shred a small amount of potato, let it chill in the fridge for a while, and then place the chilled potato magic under your eyes. For the next 15 minutes or so, sit and read a good book, watch a little television, or get on Twitter. When you remove the odd treatment, voila! There should be less puff under those eyes.
  6. Cinnamon
  7. Cinnamon – This fantastic spice also has great skincare benefits! Who knew? Mix a bit in with your favorite lip gloss to turn it into a lip-plumper. Or, try making a facial mask out of honey and cinnamon that can be used to help dry out acne and exfoliate dull, tired skin.
  8. Yogurt
  9. Yogurt – A fantastic moisturizing agent as well as a skin exfoliant (due to the lactic acid it contains). Use as a cooling facial mask to wake up dull, tired, or dry winter skin, or soak hands in it to help soften and heal cuticles; in either case, the thicker the yogurt, generally the better it works.
         Turmeric
  1. Turmeric – This strong smelling, yellowish spice is great for fading skin discolorations and post-acne scarring. Mix it with just enough lime juice (another great fading agent) to make a medium-thickness paste, and dab onto discolored skin only. Leave on for about 20 minutes before rinsing off with warm water. The area treated may take on a temporary yellow tint that should fade with another washing or two, but still — this is a treatment probably better suited to weekend nights.
  2. Cranberry Juice
  3. Cranberry Juice – And we ain’t talkin’ ‘bout that sugary cocktail stuff! I know some of you were ready to buy a bottle of Ocean Spray.lol. Spain’s raven-haired beauties still use pure cranberry juice to this day to keep their locks shining and lustrous. In the shower, use it as a post conditioner rinse. Pour over damp hair, massage in for a minute or two, and then let it sit for as long as you can before rinsing thoroughly.
  4. Coffee
  5. Coffee – Coffee serves multiple benefits depending on whether you use it brewed or in its ground form. Brewed dark roast can be used as a post-conditioner wash to add richness to brunette, auburn, and dark blonde hair. Instant coffee can be added to conditioner for near the same effect, and plain ol' coffee grounds are a fantastic exfoliator. Mix with your favorite facial wash to give that face a good scrubbin’, or take it straight to your dry bod.
  6. Salt
  7. Salt – Natural sea salt is a great exfoliant and healing agent. Using small circular motions, rub down your entire dry body with straight up salt before your shower for a fantastic glow (make sure to use a rich moisturizer afterward). Or (be careful), try making a thick paste out of sea salt and honey, and place on stubborn acne. Be warned — it’ll sting like a jellyfish, but it works wonders for me.
  8. Apple Cider Vinegar
  9. Apple cider vinegar – This stuff is simply amazing. Pour some in a spritzer bottle, and use it as a facial toner to sop up extra oil and to regulate your skin’s pH levels. Dab some on ruddy cheeks or inflamed skin to take down redness. Use as a post-conditioner rinse to lock in moisture and shine, as well as protecting color and removing product build-up. Drink two tablespoons a day to decrease natural body odour, improve overall skin quality, and aid digestion. Amazing.
With these 10 simple ingredients, you’ve got yourself a fine recipe for skin and hair nirvana, all without breaking the bank or resorting to harsh, man-made chemicals. Just don’t try making any food out of all of these together… Salted strawberries over coffee-scented potatoes with a turmeric and cinnamon yogurt dressing topped with an apple cider vinegar and cranberry honey reduction? Yeah, diarrhea in a bowl. Haha!
